Class Experience

Spanish, laughter, and games make compelling forces in language-learning! In this class, those at or near the beginning of their Spanish-language journey will practice different kinds of structures and phrases each week while playing games and discussing the movie Encanto. No previous Spanish knowledge is required.

I use Google Slides to teach this unit. I teach with a focus on Comprehensible Input and not grammar since that is not how language is naturally acquired. Spanish Encanto class is designed for beginner level with no previous knowledge or exposure to Spanish. Students will learn Spanish while discussing and viewing parts of the Disney film Encanto. Students will learn numbers, colors, weather, family, clothing, animals and other Spanish vocabulary words and phrases from the movie. Students will learn about Colombia, listen and sing to the music from Encanto and learn about other Colombian traditions. The focus will be on developing skills in the areas of listening, speaking and reading. Interactive games/activities will be used to expose students to the target language.

Though this FLEX version of the course includes no live class time, please see below the various ways we will interact over the course of this learning experience:

~Interaction Through Instructional Videos~
Each Sunday, I will post a video introducing the new structures and vocabulary for the week. There will be optional reinforcement activities weekly.

~Interaction Through Reinforcement Games and Activities~
Each week features different structures and vocabulary. Each Sunday, I share a video of myself presenting new vocabulary and structures and I provide printable versions of practice activities for the students. I will check in on Wednesdays to answer any questions or to provide feedback to check for understanding.

These will be our weekly focuses:
Week 1- Students will learn how to greet each other, talk about the weather and calendar, discuss how we feel in Spanish and learn numbers 1-15. I spy game will be used to reinforce this topic.
Week 2- Students will learn weather phrases, build on calendar, numbers and colors. Students will also learn about the different gifts the characters have in the movie. Students will open doors to receive a gift and practice counting with butterflies to reinforce this topic.

Week 3- Students will reinforce colors and be able to describe the different clothing from the movie. The traditional game of sorry will be used to reinforce this topic.

Week 4- Students will learn family vocabulary and relationships. Students will play Snakes and Ladders while reinforcing family vocabulary.

Week 5- Students will learn the Spanish alphabet and try to find Bruno. Students will try to locate Bruno and other characters while playing a game of memory.

Week 6- Students will learn about the animals and places from the movie. Students will play musical Bingo to review the class material.

Looking forward to helping you improve your Spanish skills!
Learning Goals
There will be a combination of videos and games/activities, or music all focused on a specific vocabulary topic or structure. We will learn new vocabulary or structures each lesson. These items will be available for you to go through at your own pace throughout the week. I will be checking in with the class on a regular basis to see how they are progressing. Resources for each lesson will be provided every Sunday.

Even though this isn't a live class, this is an interactive class! Make sure you are actively listening and participating throughout the lessons. Your participation helps guide me, the teacher, to provide materials to review words or add more challenging words! Please feel free to message me with any questions you have, I LOVE helping my students! :) Students can contact me (the instructor) any time they wish via the Classroom page & Teacher page. I will respond to questions within 24-48 hours.
