Note: This is a beginner course, so there is no prior experience or knowledge needed. Welcome to Beginner Guitar Summer Camp! In this three day course, we will begin our guitar playing journey. We will spend each class learning something new on our guitar, and will end the week with the ability to play two different songs. If you have ever wanted to learn guitar, then this class is for you! Day 1: We will begin with the basics! We will learn the different parts of the guitar, learn the string names (and numbers), and we will learn the proper way to hold the guitar. After we have reviewed all the different parts, we will learn the difference between a single note and chords. We will then spend the rest of class beginning to learn Happy Birthday (single note). Day 2: We will begin with a review and finish up learning Happy Birthday. Students will then be introduced to two different chords: G and Cadd9. We will go over a basic down strum, and focus on mastering those two chords. Day 3: We will begin class with reviewing G and Cadd9 while continuing to work on our down strum. Students will then be taught the chords A and D. Once students have mastered those 4 chords, they will be shown how to read a chord sheet. We will then play through the chords for the song Old Town Road. Any remaining time will be used to allow students the opportunity to display what they have learned. Depending on each students abilities, the schedule may change a bit from day to day, but they will still be learning all the same concepts. *Due to the limited time scheduled, please make sure your students guitar is tuned prior to class. I always recommend the app Guitar Tuna, which makes tuning very easy! Let me know if you have any questions about that app.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the parts of a guitar, how to hold a guitar, how to strum, and how to play 4 different chords.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Outschool Community!
My name is Sarah Trommer and I am 27 years old. I currently live in Houston, Texas with my husband and new son. Prior to that I lived in Florida and Louisiana as I am a military spouse and we have to move every couple of years!
On Outschool, I am excited to be able to offer classes all about music, songwriting, and guitar.
If you can't tell, I am a lover of all things music! I am self taught in guitar, ukulele, and piano and love making music through songwriting too. Music has always been such an important part of my life, as it has helped me have a way of expressing my thoughts and feelings. My hope in teaching with Outschool is that students will be able to have the same opportunity for expression that I was able to have growing up.
Although I have no educational background in teaching or music, it has not stopped me from sharing what I love with others. My style of teaching is not always traditional or by the book, but we always have fun and learn in fun and unique ways.
Over the last several years, I have given music lessons to a number of students and have loved every minute of it! I believe it is my job, as a teacher, to create a fun and safe environment for students. I will always strive to make my classroom fun, safe, and engaging for your students.
I look forward to meeting you all!
