Beatboxing 101 (Recurring)

Get ready to beatbox and grow your skill set in beatboxing! In this high-energy interactive dance class, students will learn modern and old school beatboxing trends. Unlike a YouTube video or video game, students learn to do more than just follow. They’ll learn sound technique, beatboxing terminology, and a short beatboxing routine.

The teacher will guide participants through a beatbox routine and provide them with the tools to individualize the sounds. I offer a friendly environment for students of all abilities and all genders. No beatboxing experience required. This class is gamified and designed to support individual self-expression.

We pack a lot into our 35 minute class. Is is:
10% verbal interaction with the teacher and peers
70 % follow the teacher
20% do your own freestyle

If you feel your child would benefit from a longer "follow the teacher" portion then please message the instructor for 1-on-1 classes. 


Class Overview:
- We start with Show and Tell (approximately 5 minutes)
- Students will complete a short warm-up (follow the teacher)
- Students will learn classic beatbox sounds (follow the teacher)
- Students will complete a short music routine (follow the teacher)
- Students will engage in Freestyle beatbox (approximately 10 minutes)
- Students will learn a final group sound (new and unique beatbox sound/technique)


This class does not involves physical movement (all abilities are welcome). It is recommended for your child to have water nearby. Students should refrain from eating during class.

Music Selection:
While this class will not contain music that includes songs with socially identified "bad words" I will be playing Hip Hop Music. I will have some KidzBop and there may be some JoJo Siwa. This class aims to provide hip hop dance skills while still honoring hip hop culture I will not have Elmo or Frozen on the playlist. Creative Movement offers a "Disney" theme day.

I do welcome song suggestions from Kids. I recommend emailing me your kid's song request or posting it on the class page before class (at least 4 hours notice is helpful). This way I can check song lyrics and your kid won't be upset that I didn't play Frozen.

Technology:
If you experience tech issues (wifi drops, device crashes) just email the instructor. I will generally offer to move you to the next available class date.
This class uses a camera and external mic. Sound is shared through zoom to provide the best audio experience. In the event that your child finds the music too loud please turn down the volume on your device. 
Feedback from amazing parents is what helps me to know what is and isn't working. It is my goal to provide amazing online educational opportunities for all learners.

Musix/Beatbox style:
Keep in mind this class uses Old School and and current beatbox trends. This is not a class designed to teach your child to beatbox like something they saw on TikTok/Social Media. While students may be introduced to some basic beatboxing sounds, this is not an advanced class. If your kiddo want to focus on the deep throat base or whistle noises, this class will not provide that.

Week of 27 February:  Beatbox Sounds (traditional). Week of 6 March:  Electronic Sounds. Week of 13 March:  Rock Music Beatboxing. Week of 20 March: Top 40 Freestyle Beatboxing


New to Online Learning?
Children under the age of 7 who are not used to online learning may not be able to focus for the entire class. If your child leaves class early a refund will not be issued. It can take a 6-year-old 2 or 3 classes before they are able to stay engaged the entire class. Engagement is not limited to performing every activity. Engagement can include beatboxing only to certain songs, watching the monitor and observing other students, or singing while not beatboxing. Students are encouraged to participate to the best of their ability.
