Calling all Math Superheroes! In this multi-day math class, superheroes will be using their superhero math skills to solve equations using base ten blocks, number words, comparing & ordering, addition, subtraction, solving unknowns, part/part/whole and much more. Each time class meets students will have two "task". Prior to class, students can download and print the class packet or bring a paper and pencil to participate in a Be a Math Superhero, Math Class With Ms. B . Understanding of the above math skills is needed in order to participate. This is a multi-day class. I encourage all learners to participate in class, however, they can pass on the equation. My style of teaching is turn table teaching. Each student has a math equation to work through (we discuss our math tools, Ms. B's White board, using our fingers etc). I also encourage every learnrer to support and to be patient in class whitle their class mate works though the math equations. I encourage supporting each other in all of my classes. What we do not complete in class we will complete in the following math class. Students are welcome to come dressed as their favorite superhero for our class. Here is what we will be working on in class: Week 1 Monday: TASK #1: SUPERHERO OUTFIT You’ve known for a long time that you were “special.” There was that time that you were able to lift a fallen tree up when you were building a fort. And then there was that basketball game where you jumped up to shoot, and felt like you were flying. You haven’t told anyone about your superpowers yet, but it’s time to put them to good use! You’ll be a real-life superhero! Let’s get your outfit planned! TASK#2: FLYING SPEED You know that you can fly, but you’re going to need to practice before you can help people! Skills: more and less, base ten blocks, problem-solving Wednesday: TASK #3: LIFTING HEAVY THINGS Lifting heavy objects is a big part of being a superhero! You’ll need to practice so that you can use this skill to save people! Skills: number words, comparing & ordering, problem-solving TASK#4: FIRST DAY ON THE JOB You’ve lifted! You’ve flown! Now it’s time for your first day on the job. Use the number clues to solve each message. Skills: addition, subtraction, solving unknowns, part/part/whole, place value, more & less Friday: TASK#5: A BURNING BUILDING A local apartment building is on fire and you need to rescue the people who live there! Skills: ordering, part/part/whole, representing numbers TASK #6: A CAT IN A TREE You get the superhero signal saying that there’s a cat stuck in a tree. It’s time to help! Skills: problem-solving, skip-counting Week 2 Monday: TASK #7: KNOWING YOUR SURROUNDINGS As a superhero it is important to be familiar with your city. This will help you know how to get places fast when someone needs help. Skills: addition, subtraction, problem-solving, base ten representations TASK #8: FLIGHT SPEED You just keep getting faster and faster! How fast can you fly? Let’s solve the mystery picture to see! Skills: place value, more/less, proportion, addition, subtraction Wednesday: TASK #9: FOREST FIRES There are four forest fires burning right now! But you have the power to stop them all! Skills: ordering, addition, problem-solving TASK #10: FLOOD! A huge flood is heading right for your city! You’re the only one that can possibly stop it! Skills: addition, skip-counting, patterns, problem-solving Friday: TASK #11: SUPERHERO NUMBERS Being a superhero is not easy, but it sure is worth it! Here are some numbers from the last month. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Brienna. Students can call me Ms. B.
When the pandemic started, I knew right away that homeschooling was the journey our family would be taking. I have been homeschooling along with teaching. I began teaching when I was 18! I fell in love with teaching and showing students that they were Rockstars! (Reading Rockstar, Math Rockstar, Social Studies Rock Star). It was very important to me that learners felt that they were awesome and could rock any subject that was taught.
I have two amazing kids!! A Jr. in high school and a middle school learner. Our favorite things to do as a family is to travel and collect board games.
I am a huge advocate for special needs students. My son’s journey with Autism and ADHD taught me so much from learning about different therapies to IEP goals. I create classes so that all children with different abilities can participate and feel valued.
With my ten years’ experience, as a preschool teacher my passion is teaching children through engaging activities, while having fun. Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a private tutor for Kindergarten through 6th grade.
Currently I am working towards my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and becoming a certified Curriculum Specialist. With different classroom setting experiences I had the opportunity to focus on phonics, reading, sensory activities, science experience and history. Getting children excited about learning is what drives me every day.
I cannot wait to teach your children here at Outschool!
