Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this class, I will help YOU confidently babysit toddler/pre-school aged children. I will provide learners with ideas for meaningful play in the following categories: - Cognitive - Gross Motor - Fine Motor -Sensory Learners will get to know each other as we discuss what we enjoy about babysitting littles, as well as challenges we anticipate or have experienced. I will then use slides to provide ideas for meaningful play. I will ask questions throughout this portion to keep learners engaged. After I provide these ideas, we will have a class discussion. Which of these activities are you excited to try? What challenges do you anticipate? What other activities can you think of that would fit in the "Gross Motor Play" category? *Please come prepared to participate! In the event that a particular group of learners do not participate, I do have an activity planned to cover the length of class. This class does NOT cover safety, discipline, or managing emergencies. This class is for babysitters or prospective babysitters who are interested in planning a structured day of babysitting filled with fun learning experiences. The goal for the babysitter is to introduce meaningful play to keep the child/children engaged and happy (making the babysitter's job easier and more enjoyable)!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
I have a passion for teaching. I always have. Teaching in a classroom felt like home to me, until my home BECAME my classroom.Virtual learning, remote learning, distance learning... however you refer to the drastic shift in education and academics that occurred during the early days of the COVID pandemic, I was one of the teachers who pioneered this front. I have had a blast discovering new ways to engage online learners. At the end of the day, the one thing I love more than teaching is watching my learners grow and master new concepts and skills!
In regards to academic subjects, I focus on ELA and Social Studies. Although my classes in those areas will cover different topics, they will all enhance the following: Being able to express oneself through the written word, analyzing the written word (both contemporary and historical), drawing your own conclusions based on evidence, and learning how to relate to others (even those you seemingly may not have a lot in common with)!
I acquired my Bachelors in Elementary Education at Olivet Nazarene University. I have endorsements to teach ELA and Social Studies at the middle school level. In the Spring of 2017, I student taught in a 2nd grade classroom. In the fall of that year, I took over my own class... making the jump to a self contained 6th grade classroom! I then taught Social Studies to 7th graders for three years.
I believe that learning should be active and engaging. I find that students retain information with more success when they do the research and document their findings as opposed to when I merely lecture. Although that requires me to give up some control, it is more than worth it to see students discover things they didn't even know they were interested in!
I am now facing a new front- working from home as a new mother. I am so excited to begin this journey on OutSchool and keep this very special part of my life (teaching!) alive and strong. You are a very welcome part of this journey!
