Class Experience

In this ASL tutoring class, students will learn the fundamentals of American Sign Language. The curriculum will cover:

Basic Vocabulary: Students will learn everyday signs, including greetings, colors, numbers, and common phrases.
Simple Sentences: We will explore how to form simple sentences in ASL to enhance communication skills.
Cultural Context: Understanding Deaf culture and the importance of ASL in the Deaf community will be a key focus of our discussions.

My name is Imani Biggs, and I am excited to share a little about myself! As a special educator, I believe in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all my students. Each of us is unique, and I strive to celebrate those differences in my classroom every day.
My classes focus on individualized instruction, where I adapt lessons to meet the specific needs of each student. I emphasize life skills, social skills, and academic subjects, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn in a way that works best for them.
My passion for teaching was inspired by my upbringing; both of my parents are deaf. Growing up in a household where communication relied on sign language taught me the importance of accessibility and understanding. This background drives my commitment to ensure that every student feels valued and included in the learning process.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a wonderful one-year-old son named Kaison, who brings so much joy to my life. I love to travel and explore new places, especially when there are beautiful beaches involved! The beach is my happy place; I find peace in the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun.
