Class Experience

In this FLEX class, learners will enjoy videos, slide-show presentations, games and activities to grow their knowledge of a new language. Students will learn the alphabet, numbers and key vocabulary words and phrases. Students will enjoy a weekly video presentation that they can watch as many times as they would like to increase their skills and retention of new signs. This is a Flex class, so there are no live meetings, but I will still be available for questions, comments and interaction.
For interaction, learners will post videos of them signing their own name and give key facts about themselves in sign....For example, stating how many siblings they have, or that they like apples etc.
We will have weekly challenges and games. No prior knowledge is needed. Each week students will learn vocabulary and phrases. Each week will have a demonstration quiz and classroom challenge. Students can interact with each other by asking each other questions and having the other child answer by video in sign language. By interacting in ASL, the students will enjoy getting to know each other. Students will also get to know each other through challenges and games. Students will also learn about deaf culture and how to be sensitive to others.
A certification of completion will be awarded at the end of the session.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a state certified teacher with an ESL endorsement and nearly a decade of experience teaching ASL to young learners. I have studied Sign Language Interpreting at Oakland Community College in Michigan and went on the further my studies at St. Clair College in Windsor. I also grew up with a deaf neighbor and through our friendship developed skills and a love for American Sign Language. I have always been fascinated with the story of Helen Keller and have always wanted to communicate with others who live in a silent world. Please feel free to enroll in my Helen Keller class to further intrigue your learner to understand my fascination with being able to communicate without words.
