In this engaging 16-week course, students dive deep into the fascinating world of artificial intelligence and machine learning using Code.org's proven curriculum. The class meets weekly for 55-minute live sessions that combine structured learning with hands-on coding practice. Class Experience: This course is thoughtfully structured to build understanding from the ground up: What Will Be Taught: Fundamentals of artificial intelligence and machine learning How computers learn from data to make decisions Building and training ML models using AI Lab Creating interactive apps with App Lab Understanding AI ethics and real-world applications Weekly Structure: First 15 minutes: Concept introduction and demonstration Middle 30 minutes: Guided hands-on practice with real-time support Final 10 minutes: Share work, troubleshoot, and preview next week's content Teaching Style & Interaction: Interactive instruction with frequent opportunities for questions and discussion Live coding demonstrations where students can follow along Small group activities to explore concepts like data classification and pattern recognition Regular opportunities to share projects and get feedback from peers Individual support during hands-on practice sessions Topics Covered Week by Week: Weeks 1-4: Introduction to App Lab and machine learning foundations Weeks 5-8: Working with data patterns and classification models Weeks 9-12: Building and improving machine learning models Weeks 13-16: Advanced concepts and final project development Student Engagement: Students actively participate through live coding exercises Regular group discussions about AI applications and ethics Interactive problem-solving activities Project sharing and peer feedback sessions Hands-on practice with real-world datasets By the end of this course, students will have created multiple working applications using machine learning, developed a strong understanding of AI concepts, and gained practical experience with industry-standard tools. Parental Guidance
This course uses Code.org's curriculum and platform which is designed specifically for students aged 11 and up. While we discuss artificial intelligence and its societal impacts, all content is age-appropriate and focuses on positive applications of technology. In Lesson 15, we will discuss ethical considerations in AI development, including examples of AI bias and fairness issues, which may lead to thoughtful discussions about technology's impact on society.
