Students will learn archaeology as a field of anthropology includes looking at culture in a relative way. Students will learn about the methods and practices of archaeologists. Students will learn how archaeologists identify artifacts, date sites, and preserve artifacts for future generations. Students will learn about the ethical concerns with excavation, looting, and questions of cultural ownership from a decolonized perspective. Students will be encouraged to engage as cultural stewards through reading, discovery, and participation in historical, cultural, and public archaeology-based organizations.
There Is no homework assigned for this course. Students are encouraged to explore local archaeology and continue to ask questions about the past.
