HELP!! Our dear friend Jiggy the jellyfish is lost at sea! He went to play a game of tic tac toe and we haven't seen him since 9 o'clock this morning. He needs to be home for a snack in 30 minutes! Do you think you can help me bring him home? This course is designed for students who have a beginner's level knowledge of addition. We will work on addition within 10, so no sums will be greater than 10. An advanced pre-kindergarten student, kindergarten student, or struggling first grade student would be the perfect match for this class. I will guide students through an escape room format, where we must solve the equation to go on to the next section/room of the ocean. In each section/room we will meet a new ocean animal who will have a problem for us to solve. There will be addition problems using tens frames, dominos, tally marks, number lines and fingers for us to answer along the way. As the teacher and facilitator of the escape room, I will guide learners through the best ways to approach each addition equation. Sometimes we might look at the equation in a different way to solve the way that fits the learner or the group best. The escape room is an interactive 30 minutes of solving math facts together, so learners can participate as much or as little as they feel comfortable. Learners will be invited to identify items such as the tens frames, counters, the addition sign, the equal sign, the number line and more as we go. Are you up for the challenge?
Learning Goals
Students will practice addition skills using tens frames, dominos, tally marks, number lines and fingers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hi! My name is Ms. Jess. I have been a classroom teacher for 9 years. My passions include teaching young learners about marine science, reading and math. I live where it's always warm so I am passionate about the ocean and the animals that live in it.
I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a bachelor's degree in Spanish. I am a K-6 certified teacher and have worked in the public school system for 9 years, and worked for 1 year in a private school setting. I have my ESOL (English Speakers of another Language) endorsement and have almost completed my reading endorsement. I have taught 1st grade, pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten. Currently, I am a reading interventionist for grades K-4! Just before accepting this position, I taught Kindergarten for 7 years. I have worked with many students who have an IEP and many students whose native language is something other than English. My year teaching pre-kindergarten was in a private school and I was fortunate to create the curriculum. I did this by focusing on common core and state standards, while also considering what is expected of incoming Kindergarteners.
My classroom is a warm and welcoming place where young learners thrive and time flies because we are having so much fun! I can't wait to meet you!
