Class Experience

US Grade 8
Do you want to learn 8th Grade math/Pre-Algebra, but can't commit to live meetings? Then this class is for you! This class is a flexible schedule class, which means there are no live meetings.

Students will learn all about solving linear equations and systems of equations at an 8th grade/Pre-Algebra level through pre-recorded videos, interactive slides, interactive quizzes, games, and discussion posts. This is the THIRD part in a series, and if students complete all parts then they will have completed the equivalent of a full year of 8th grade math/Pre-Algebra.

Each week will follow a similar format.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I will post a printable notes page, graphic organizer, and practice sheet in the Outschool classroom, along with a link to an interactive Quizizz presentation. Students will refer to those materials as they walk through the interactive presentation that will begin with a warm-up, followed by pre-recorded videos that teach the lesson, self-graded practice questions and comprehension checks, and ending with an end question that gets students thinking about what they learned.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I will post an interactive Quizizz presentation that will include a game that practices yesterday's concepts (as well as some review questions as students move farther into the course), extra resources if students want to study the topic more in-depth, and a self-graded exit ticket so I can know if students need additional support. I will also post a discussion question that encourages student interaction and deep thinking. Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas on the math learned through the discussion posts and interacting with each other.
*Periodically, one day will be an assessment to check for understanding, which might affect the timing of the lessons/games.

All videos use an "I do, We do, You do" method of teaching where I model how to solve the problem, then we "work it out together" and then students practice on their own. If students need extra help with a concept, I will host an optional free weekly "Q & A Office Hours" that students can request to conquer tricky topics!
*There are NO REQUIRED LIVE MEETINGS because this is a flexible schedule class*

Students will learn the following concepts:
Week 1: Solving One Step Equations, Solving by Combining Like Terms and Distributive Property
Week 2: Equations with Variables on Both Sides, No/Infinite Solutions, Literal Equations
Week 3: Solving Systems by Graphing and Substitution
Week 4: Solving Systems by Addition and Subtraction

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!

I look forward to learning with you!

Arkansas Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
I am a certified teacher for grades 4-12 math, with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching. I have taught in both private and public schools, have homeschooled students, and I have tutored students in math for the last 8+ years. I want to inspire students to ENJOY math because they UNDERSTAND it. I focus on the WHY behind the math rather than just the HOW. My favorite thing is to take students who "hate" math and change their minds, giving them a confidence they never had before!
