4th Grade Semester Course w/ Engineering Focus (Part 3 of 4) 9-week Science Semester Course | w/ Report Card
What's included
18 live meetings
13 hrs 30 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. The students will have homework after each class. They will be asked recall and open-ended questions where they will have to apply what they learned to correctly answer the question. I ask that the students review what was what they learned every day. Optional: I ask that the students dedicate 10-15 minutes of study time each day.Assessment
The students will be assessed as they engage in discussions and as they interact in a question-answer session at the end of class. The students will periodically be given quizzes and/or formative assessments. This will guide my instruction. I will review what the students need.Class Experience
US Grade 4
[3rd of four 9-week sessions] This course takes a modified, thematic approach to 4th Grade Science. It offers content that is typically taught during the third 9-weeks in a traditional 4th grade science class. The students will learn about the structure and function of waves. The students will take an in-depth look at science from an Engineering perspective. The following topics will be discussed: Unit: Waves Week 1 - Wave Structure Week 2 - Types of Waves Week 3 - Amplitude & Wavelength Week 4 - Wave Energy - Doppler Effect Week 5 - Wave Information transfer examples Week 6 - Analyze and interpret data from maps to describe patterns of Earth’s features Week 7 - Digitized signals & Wireless communication Week 8 - Bluetooth, Fiber Optics Week 9 - Analyze and interpret animal sense of wave patterns Waves, which are regular patterns of motion, can be made in water by disturbing the surface. When waves move across the surface of deep water, the water goes up and down in place; there is no net motion in the direction of the wave except when the water meets a beach. Waves of the same type can differ in amplitude (height of the wave) and wavelength (spacing between wave peaks) The students will learn the structure of waves. Different modes of instruction will be used. The students will be taught using pictures, video clips, slides, discussions, lecture, independent reading, and open-ended questions. The students will learn the types of waves. This will be taught using pictures, video clips, slides, discussions, lecture, independent reading, and open-ended questions. Students will learn about the energy in waves. This will be taught using pictures, video clips, slides, discussions, lecture, independent reading, and open-ended questions. The students require the 3rd grade science course. The fourth 9-weeks course will pick up where this course leaves off.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the world around them. Engaged students will improve their ability to respond to state assessment questions on 4th grade science content.
