US Grade Kindergarten - 1
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: ***I teach classes with my baby in the room or by wearing baby. Baby may be seen or heard at times during class.*** The learner should know their letter sounds and have some basic reading skills for this class. In this five day class, the learner will be learning the short vowel sounds and practice reading passages with those vowel sounds in some of the words. Each day will be focused on a vowel and the short vowel sound it makes. We will start class by learning the vowel sound and making words together that have that short vowel sound. Some of the words we make will be from the passages we will be reading. After we’ve made and read words with that short vowel, we will read the passages several times. Repetition is great for learners. It helps them practice the words and become more familiar with the words they are reading. They also build confidence and become fluent readers. Some of the words we will have are listed beside each day. Day 1: Short a (Dad, bat, hat, map, ham, etc.) Day 2: Short e (hen, vet, pet, peck, rest, etc.) Day 3: Short i (sick, sip, win, him, kit, etc.) Day 4: Short o (Bob, frog, hop, hot, mop, etc.) Day 5: Short u (fun, bug, mug, pup, bus, etc.)

My name is Mrs. Makenna! I love all things math, phonics, reading and sensory play. I even like some science and geography. I taught in the classroom before I started moving around the country with my husband’s job. We love to travel and explore new places. I have been all over the United States and Central America.
