Beginner Level
Level 4 of our ESL Curriculum is designed for teenagers and young learners who have either completed Levels 1 through 3 or have a basic knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary introduced in the first three levels. As a result, Level 4 will expand on what they already know and introduce them to expressing more complex ideas through the following topics: School subjects and descriptive adjectives with the questions ‘What is your favourite...?' and 'What is your least favourite...?' Past simple tense with common regular and irregular verbs Birthday party vocabulary and the verb ‘to be’ in past simple form - was and were Places and activities with the questions ‘Where did you go?’ and ‘What did you do?’ Health and giving appropriate advice using modal verbs - should and shouldn’t Sea creatures under the sea and at the aquarium with articles - a and an Quantifiers, countable and uncountable nouns in the context of shopping and ingredients. Jobs and third person auxiliary verbs ‘do’ using the question ‘What does he/she do?’ and ‘What do they do?’ Personal items using the possessive ‘s to answer the question ‘Whose is this?’ Countable nouns with the question ‘How many are there?’ in the context of different animals, environments and places Lesson 6 goes over the material covered in Lessons 1 through 5, while Lesson 12 goes over the material covered in Lessons 7 through 11. Lesson Structure Before some controlled practice exercises like gap fills, matching activities, and even error correction, each lesson begins with a presentation of the core grammar structures and vocabulary that will be learned. In addition, there are a number of opportunities for students to gain invaluable speaking practice through games, randomiser activities and structured dialogues, giving them the confidence to put what they have learned in class into practice. Vocabulary refresher activities in the review lessons will help students review what they have learned in each block of lessons. Students can practise the vocabulary and structures they've learned in each lesson on the accompanying worksheets included with each lesson of Level 4.
