Follows College Board Advanced Placement Curriculum
Aligned with Advanced Placement (AP) Standards
Chemistry is the study of the substances of matter, their properties, and how they react to form new substances. Chemistry is important in so many areas of life, including the human body and health. I am a high school chemistry teacher teaching 10th-grade chemistry (including honors) and Advanced Placement (AP) chemistry. Also, I have tutored students in chemistry for over five years. This 10-week AP Chemistry preparation class is meant for students who have already taken one year of...
10 lessons//10 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1The Periodic TableThis lesson will cover the periodic table, atomic structure, ionic charges, types of compounds, valence electrons, and writing chemical compounds.Week 2Lesson 2Chemical QuantitiesThis lesson will cover calculating molar mass, converting between grams and moles, and using Avogadro's number. We will also cover determining empirical and molecular formulas.Week 3Lesson 3Electron ConfigurationsIn this lesson, we will discuss orbitals and how to determine electron configurations, including noble gas configurations.Week 4Lesson 4Periodic TrendsIn this lesson, we will discuss periodic trends (electronegativity, ionization energy, atomic radius, and more), and bond polarity.Week 5Lesson 5Lewis Structures and VSEPR TheoryIn this lesson, we will discuss drawing lewis structures, determining formal charge/resonance, and VSEPR theory.Week 6Lesson 6Gas LawsIn this lesson, we will review the kinetic molecular theory and gas law calculations.Week 7Lesson 7SolutionsIn this lesson, we will discuss calculating molarity, determining solubility, and writing net ionic equations.Week 8Lesson 8Chemical ReactionsIn this lesson, we will discuss types of chemical reactions (including acid and base and redox), balancing equations, and predicting chemical products.Week 9Lesson 9StoichiometryIn this lesson, we will discuss solving stoichiometry problems, including limiting and excess stoichiometry, solution stoichiometry, and gas stoichiometry.Week 10Lesson 10Final ReviewIn this lesson, we will review all topics covered in the course.
I am a high school chemistry teacher and I have been tutoring chemistry for 5 years.
