Class Experience
Hola! I am a native Spanish speaker. Spanish was actually my first language as my parents were born in Cuba and didn't speak English yet around the time I was born. When I started school, I actually stopped speaking Spanish, and spoke only English. As I grew up through Elementary, Junior High, and High School, I could understand Spanish, but simply chose not to speak it. It wasn't until I met the mother of my son who is Colombian, and only spoke Spanish where once again I had to relearn the Spanish language, and actually sharpened the skill quite well. In this ongoing Spanish in the “Real World Weekly Class”. Your student will learn such phrases as: Hola mi nobre es….. (Hello my name is____) Yo naci en… (I was born in____) Mi color favorito es… (My favorite color is ____) Mi animal favorito es… (My favorite animal is ____) Mis padres se llaman…. (My parents names are_____) Along with tons of actual phrases that non Spanish speakers would most likely need, when conversing with a primarily Spanish speaking person. I will also teach how to use hand gestures, and body language to portray what one is trying to convey. A lot of words that are in English can easily be translated into Spanish, and there are also a lot of words that Spanish speakers are likely to recognize such as. Hamberger (Hamburger) Hot Dog (Hot Dog) Bistec (Beef Steak) Cornflay (Corn Flakes) Sweater (Sweater) Hospital (Hospital) My teaching method will be by showing pictures of scenarios, sounding out in English exactly what I am going to say in Spanish, and then helping your student properly sound out, and repeat the phrase. I will ensure that your student understands what they are communicating, along with giving them the confidence to use the sentence if they want or have to one day. Confidence is key, I know that when a person feels comfortable with what they are trying to communicate, they are more likely to verbally communicate the message in a way any Spanish speaker would understand. The message doesn't necessarily have to be structured or pronounced correctly, the message simply needs to be understood by the receiver, and that is what I will teach your student. How to communicate in a way, where the receiver will understand. Since this is a private tutoring class I want to work closely with the student and parents to see what is best for your learner. I believe proficiency is much better than the speed of learning. So I do like to focus on pronunciation. Thank you for considering my class, and I look forward to meeting your student(s). Mr. O

I am a native Spanish speaker, and have taught people in the federal government how to speak Spanish to convey simple yet important messages. I also served as a translator while working as a fire fighter/emergency medical responder, where I had to translate important life saving information from patient to medical provider and vice versa.
