AZ ESA FAQ

Cute kid with a question about the Arizona Educational Scholarship fund.

Is the Arizona ESA right for me?

The main thing ESA families have in common is choosing a path that allows them to customize their child’s education. Here are a couple of reasons families might choose this path.

  • The public or Charter School is not a good social or academic environment for your child.

  • Your family wants a more personalized learning environment.

  • Your child is deeply passionate about a sport or activity (like ballet or music) and requires more flexibility in schooling.

  • Your kid has unique educational, emotional, or physical needs that the current public school system is unable to meet currently.

Who is eligible for the AZ ESA?

  • Preschool-age children who are 3 years old with a disability (get specifics on requirements here).

  • K-12 age children, 5 years old by January 1st of the contract year that begins on July 1st.

  • Once approved, renew yearly by signing the contract. No application is required.

  • Public school attendance requirements are removed for universal application.

What can you buy with ESA funds?

  • Almost anything deemed educational is covered. The handbook’s list of allowable items (see page 8) is very extensive and includes things like tuition for private schools, textbooks, personal computers, and online learning programs like Outschool. For specifics on curriculum, check out pages 19-21 of the handbook.

  • For those with a disability, several types of therapy are also approved with supporting documentation. Be sure to review the annual parent handbook to stay up to date on any changes.

ClassWallet Questions & Answers

How do I buy an Outschool class on ClassWallet?

Here’s a step-by-step walk-through on how to do it, including screenshots.

ClassWallet approved my order, but Outschool canceled it. Why didn’t my order process?

Orders can fail to process for various reasons, including:

  • The teacher changed their availability or canceled the class meeting(s) after the order was started

  • Another learner purchased one or more of the requested meeting times before the pending enrollment was processed

  • An order was flagged as a duplicate by ClassWallet and was rejected

  • All seats were taken in the class before the order was processed

  • There was a delay during the approval process and the class started before the order was approved

  • The order was created with a link that is not compatible with ClassWallet (e.g.; auto-scheduled sections and recurring private meetings in 1-on-1 classes)

While orders are being approved, ClassWallet holds the funds for enrollment until the order is processed completely. When a class is unavailable, or an order is not approved, ClassWallet will return the funds to your account balance. Outschool does not collect payment until the order is approved and the enrollment is complete. Parents can contact the ClassWallet team for a timeline on when funds for canceled orders will be returned to their account.

How do refunds work for classes purchased through ClassWallet?

When you receive refunds from Outschool for classes purchased via ClassWallet, you’ll receive a confirmation email immediately, but these refunds are processed slower than regular Outschool refunds. Refunds will be visible from the transactions page immediately, but you may not see your refund reflected in your ClassWallet balance for up to 14 business days from issuance.
