My expertise encompasses elementary through college level writing. As a published research writer, I have the knowledge to breakdown the process for students.
Learning to write can be a challenge for students. Just the thought of having to write a sentence can be so laborious at times. With extensive experience supporting neurodivergent learners, including those with dyslexia and dysgraphia, I have developed an approach that makes the writing process accessible, engaging, and confidence-building. I understand that writing can be a complex task for learners who experience challenges with reading, spelling, or fine motor skills. I use a structured, step-by-step teaching style, breaking down each component of writing into small, manageable parts. This method allows students to focus on one step at a time, minimizing overwhelm and promoting clarity.
For students with dyslexia, I emphasize visual aids and graphic organizers to help map out ideas before putting pen to paper. I use color-coded planning tools to distinguish different sections of their writing, which allows them to visually "see" their essay's structure. This is helpful for all learning styles.
Each lesson is designed to accommodate different processing speeds and learning preferences. I foster a supportive classroom environment where each student is encouraged to express their unique voice and ideas. By simplifying each phase—from brainstorming and organizing to drafting and revising—I ensure that every learner can map out their writing process effectively, building not only their writing skills but also their confidence and creativity.
