寫作101：獨角獸！為初學者寫一個簡單的描述性段落

This class is ideal for students who can write simple sentences and are eager to expand their skills into paragraph writing. Students do not have to have strong handwriting or spelling skills because the focus is on narration and paragraph organization. Using unicorns as our unique paragraph model, students will learn to write a paragraph about a variety of topics. Students will be encouraged to write about topics that inspire them and share their unique ideas with the class. 

Each week will feature a teacher-facilitated discussion and feedback for each student individualized to their own work. 

Class one: This class will cover learning how to generate ideas for writing a paragraph. This class will include multi-sensory activities to allow students to brainstorm on an appropriate level for their development. Students will complete a scavenger hunt to help them brainstorm writing ideas. 

Class two: Unicorn Power & Punctuation- learning what makes a strong sentence to build a powerful paragraph. Students will utilize sentence generators to demonstrate their understanding of a strong sentence. Students will analyze teacher-generated sentences to determine how many "Unicorn Powers" they would give each one. 

Class three: Unicorn Paragraph Mapping-learning about the function of each sentence while using a unique model to help students remember each part easily! Students will each have an opportunity to contribute to a community paragraph and their own work. 

Class four: Unicorn Publishing-Editing, revising, and publishing the student's final paragraph. Students who participate fully in the class will finish the class with their own paragraphs ready for printing and display! Students have the opportunity to video record their paragraphs to share within the classroom. 

Students will be provided with a video lesson, writing worksheets, helpful visuals, and feedback to help them strengthen their writing skills. Each class will include interaction with the teacher and peers through discussion. Each discussion will be designed to build the confidence and skill of new writers, including scaffolding available for even the timidest writer. Students will fall in love with writing through fun games, playful projects, and positive encouragement. If your student is crazy about sparkles and unicorns, then this is the class for them!
