Writing prompts inspire us to use our powers of observation, think about our feelings, and trust our imaginations. This class will meet weekly, for a 25 minute burst of creativity. Different types of prompts help us explore different types of creative writing, from finding our voices to sharpening our descriptive powers, or simply trusting ourselves to put words down on paper. Students will learn how to trust their imaginations and their voices. They will practice taking chances with their writing in a safe and fun environment.
I started my popular Creative Writing Club on Outschool in November of 2019. Recently, I created a lesson on writing prompts, and it went so well that I decided to spin it into its own club. My mission is to encourage all children to trust their own voices and believe in themselves as writers.
Learners should come to class prepared to write. They can use paper and pencil, a journal, a Google Doc, Word Doc, or they can simply type in the chat. I recommend using a format that they will be able to keep.
