課堂經歷
In this ongoing, movement-based class, we visit a new country each week. I share, of course, pictures and information about the people of each country, but the goal of the class is to share and to feel the spirit of each country through its dance and music. By dancing together we create emotions and lasting memories that will nurture empathy and an appreciation for diversity through the life of the participants. Each lesson, the kids are exposed to the cultural connections between regions (for example, learning that the rich rhythms of Brazilian Samba have an African origin) and they also gain a deeper understanding of the enormous human diversity and experiences in the world (for example, by experiencing not one, but multiple dance styles from Mexico or from Iran and by touching on themes such as migration and cultural change). 教師專業知識和證書
In November 2020, I completed my “Certificate Program in Social Emotional Arts” by “UCLArts & Healing.” There I learned strategies to use the arts as a tool to teach and practice social skills (For example, Appreciating our Uniqueness) in an interactive and very fun way. I confirmed it is possible to connect emotionally through a digital platform like Zoom and also I learned about the psychological and neurological benefits of moving and creating together.
I have over 13 years of dance training and experience (including a BA in Dance) focusing on international dance styles mainly from the Middle East, Polynesia, and Spain, but I also have had opportunities to practice and perform many other styles from around the world many times for the communities that created them.
I grew up right at the border between Mexico and the United States, crossing it often and experiencing life on both sides. There, and later with a second BA in Anthropology, I understood the economic, cultural, and personal interactions that take place between both countries. I realized that the ability to communicate and work together as a team with respect and understanding regardless of our differences is key to reach the maximum potential of an individual or of a region.
