In this class we will read and discuss the highly popular book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. We will meet 2X a week for 7 weeks. The discussions will allow us to delve into literature elements such as; comprehension, character, theme, plot development, etc. We will also discus the precepts within the book, looking at themes such as: the importance of kindness; perseverance; bravery, etc. Each class will have background elements such as videos, pictures, and realia to increase the comprehension...
- This is one of those books that you will treasure. It is uniquely presented through different relatable characters' points of view that enhance the meaning of the story. The heartwarming themes really put you into the story and help to make it your own.
I have 21 years of classroom teaching experience, and have earned a Bachelor of Education with a reading minor, and a Master of Education in TESOL. A majority of my focus has been in teaching reading. I have taught this story in my classes several times and it never gets old.

The class does involve watching some Youtube videos. I can provide the links for preview if you would like. There are some difficult topics that are mentioned in the books such as; a pet dying; bullying; death of a grandparent, etc. We will discuss these topics and the characters' responses as they are presented in the book.
