In this one-time class, we will read "The Mitten" by Jan Brett, learn fun facts about the animals in the story, engage in themed counting, letter and letter sound activities and fill our own mitten with animal friends when we practice retelling the story in class. Little learners can build great listening, observation and creative thinking skills during storytime, asking questions and using their imagination. Students will listen to a story and ask and answer questions throughout the reading, practice taking turns talking, listening and sharing observations about the woodland animals in the story. We will also work our fine motor and story retelling skills creating a mitten game together. Learners will find out fun facts about the animals in our story, strengthen fundamental PreK skills like literacy, listening and sharing, predicting, problem solving, observation and speaking in turn while we talk about these animals and practice additional fine motor work engaging with the in-class mitten project. **In order to promote class discussions and participation I do not mute learners' microphones. This also helps learners practice their social skills such as active listening and taking turns. In order for this to work, students need to be in a quiet setting away from background noises (loud conversations, telephone calls, t.v, etc.). **

(You can color in your mitten and your animals before class if you'd like). Please have the mitten templates and the 8 animals cut apart before class and glue or tape togther the mitten shapes, attaching just the sides to create a mitten that the animals can fit inside (like a pillow case). ** If a printer isn't available you can play the game on screen with me, or use a mitten and animal figures or puzzle pieces you have in your home!
Because of the age of the class I recommend a grown up be within "ear-shot" to help with any technical hiccups (mic and video) that might come up.
