Students will learn how to analyze a book from beginning to end. They will learn new vocabulary and how to define words. Students will learn literary devices including irony and idioms. Students will be able to identify and define synonyms and antonyms. They will be able to outline character development and the use of locations. In addition, students will learn to present what they have learned in a final project based around the book.

Homework will consist of worksheets based on each section we read in class, reading assigned chapters to discuss for the next week, and preparing a final project to present at the end of our time together. Worksheets that are not finished during class time will be assigned as homework to complete and turn in.

Learner progress is assessed through the students ability to understand concepts presented in class. In-class activities will help to assess students understanding of new ideas. Class discussions and the final project will be used to assess the learner's progress and knowledge of the novel.
