This class will take students on a journey to the past to see how the world has changed. Each week students will compare different activities that were done in past to how they are done in modern day. Each class is a standalone class and the classes do not build on each other, students can join at any time. Students will experience how life was like and how it has changed through games, crafts, and dance, among other activities. We will cover a wide variety of time periods and subjects from Ancient times to the 20th century. Class will begin with a brief introduction of activities and history behind them. August 29: Newspapers Comparing: How we get news Activity: Creating our own newspaper Supplies: Paper and something to write with September 5: Proper Tea Comparing: Eating and Drinking Activity: Making and drinking tea Supplies: Tea bags, hot water, tea cup and saucer, milk and/or sugar, spoon Some learners may need an adult to help September 12: Immigrating to a new country Comparing: Moving from one place to another Activity: Packing a bag or suitcase Supplies: A bag or small suitcase. clothes and other items you'd need to take on a move. (Ideally more than will fit in the suitcase or bag) September 19: Meals during 1700s Comparing: Dishes and foods Activity: Grouping foods like in 1700s Supplies: Pictures of different dishes and/or list of what learners typically eat for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner September 26: 1990s Trends Comparing: Toys and trends Activities: Making a poem for toy Supplies: A stuffed animal, paper and something to write with October 3: Impressionist Paintings Comparing: Art Activity: Creating a piece of art Supplies: Paper, colored pencils, markers, etc. or Paints and brushes October 10: Paper Dolls Comparing: Toys Activity: Creating Paper Dolls Supplies: Paper, scissors, markers, colored pencils, etc. October 17: Taos and Camino Real Comparing: Trading and Shopping Activity: Shopping Supplies: 5 or more random items October 24: Shadow Puppets Comparing: Performing Activity: Making Shadow Puppets Supplies: Paper, scissors, tape, pencils or other thin sticks October 31: Halloween Comparing: Halloween traditions and other harvest celebrations Activity: Trick or Treating Supplies: Learners should come in their Halloween Costume, and bring some type of candy to eat during class Parents and Learners are encouraged to give suggestions for future classes and topics they would like to learn more about and experience. #academic

All topics covered should be age appropriate, and handled in an age appropriate manner. If parents have any concerns about a particular topic they should contact the teacher directly.

A supply list will be posted in the classroom each week for the next class, but all needed supplies will things learners should already have around the house or optional.

I love history and learning about how people lived during different times. I like to do research into how people lived and trying things out for myself. I believe the best way to learn about something is to try and experience it first hand and through this class we will try to experience this as best we can. I teach history classes on Outschool in a variety of formats and subjects and am a former Arts and Crafts teacher.評論
