This class will equip students with skills in historical memory and analysis. With a mixture of primary and secondary sources, students will tour Greece in the following periods and topics: Grades optional for parents who want to use this class for credit! Minoan-Mycenian Periods Archaic Period: Greek Poetry The rise of city-states Athens vs. Sparta: Democracy vs. Kingship, Open vs. Closed Societies Greco-Persian Wars Pericles: Athens' Golden Age Athens vs. Sparta (again): Peloponnesian Wars Philosophers Macedon and Hellenism: Philip and Alexander the Great

-Historical Investigation: learning from primary and secondary sources about historical events, their causes, and their effects.
-Historical Writing: Learning to argue for a position about history based on primary-source evidence.

Authors: Dr. Jennifer Roberts has her PhD in Art History for Yale and now teaches at Harvard.. Tracy Barnett, having majored in Classics and earned her PhD in Medieval Italian, has written over 20 books. Links will be provided each week, and we will read them in class.
