In this class, we will learn about real animals that are unique and surprising, discuss their traits and make drawings of them, as well as create an imaginary creature with strange features. Every week we will look carefully at 4-5 animals that are unique to their species/ unusual looking, or have unusual features/ survival strategies, discuss and draw them and then make up our own character inspired by the creatures we drew. I emphasize imagination rather than technical skill, and also scientific facts and discussion vocabulary. We will start with a new theme each week, the first week including strange deep sea creatures, then moving on to mammals of Madagascar, Australia, and the Galapagos. No materials will be needed except paper and pen/ pencil (your choice of art materials). You can join us anytime!
