*****Trigger warnings are provided for the mentioned books. However, it's crucial to acknowledge that trigger warnings are subjective, and individual sensitivities may differ. Prioritizing your well-being while engaging with the content and seeking support if necessary is important. An example of a Trigger Warning is in "Huckleberry Finn," the portrayal of Injun Joe has been criticized for reinforcing stereotypes about Indigenous people.***** NOTE: You do NOT need to have taken the first course to take and understand this course. I am delighted you are continuing this journey through classic literature in this second course. As an avid reader who finds joy in exploring timeless works, I understand that diving deeper into classics can feel challenging. That’s why I’ve created this follow-up class— to further enrich your understanding of classic literature through the lens of graphic novel adaptations. Graphic novels remain an excellent tool for introducing classic stories, offering a visually engaging and concise format to spark interest and inspire readers. While they do not replace the original text, these adaptations provide a stepping stone, allowing students to engage with the narrative on a deeper level. This class goes beyond surface reading, encouraging students to analyze themes, symbolism, character development, and other literary elements while appreciating the artistry of the graphic novel format. In this course, we’ll slow down to discuss and explore the stories in greater depth. The visuals in these graphic novels will continue to enhance comprehension, bridging the gap between the original text and its adaptation. Students will develop a richer understanding of the classics and gain the confidence to tackle the full-length novels when ready. To ensure accessibility, I’ve included ISBNs for all the required books, making it easy for you to purchase them online, visit a local bookstore, or borrow them from a library. Should you encounter any difficulty obtaining the books, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to assist. For the best experience, please read the assigned books before each class session. Preparing in advance will enable you to engage more actively with the material, fostering meaningful discussions and a deeper connection to these timeless stories.

Lovecraft’s most famous stories from the Cthulhu Mythos, illustrator Dave Shephard captivates readers with stories of supernatural monsters so powerful that humanity is deemed irrelevant. Dante’s Inferno
Dante crosses the nine circles of Hell to find his beloved, Beatrice, in Paradise. Along the way, he must recognize and reject each of the incarnations of sin. In each circle of Hell, Dante confronts both sinners and demons, from Cleopatra, Helen of Troy, Achilles, and Paris, whose loves were famously their downfall, to the Greek Furies and Medusa, to heretics like Epicurus, whose teachings claimed that the soul died with the body, now forced to writhe in a flaming tomb.

父母的引導和規範
Classic novels encompass a diverse range of characters and situations, exploring various themes. While most books maintain a respectful tone, a small number may contain instances of violence, murder, profanity, race-related content, mild sexual content, or include the use of offensive language like the N-word (e.g., To Kill a Mockingbird). Additionally, graphic novels may depict fighting with blood and death in the artwork. In our classroom discussions, we may address important topics such as racism, sexism, and discrimination, always ensuring age-appropriate handling of these subjects.
I want to emphasize that my classrooms provide safe, respectful, and supportive environments for all students. If you or your students have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me via email. I am committed to responding promptly and addressing any inquiries or issues that arise. As a proactive measure, I have included trigger warnings for specific books to ensure students are aware of potentially sensitive content.
供應清單
Students should have a physical or digital copy of the books to participate in the class discussions. Most of these books should be attainable through your local library. I have included the ISBN's for all books in the class description. Please plan ahead when joining this class. We do not read the books in class. If you are unable to find a book, please reach out ASAP. I may be able to find one for you to read.

I have been teaching on Outschool since June 2020, and throughout my classes, we have delved into important topics that fall under the umbrella of diversity. These include women's rights, race, gender, ethnic background, LGBTQ+ issues, and many more. Classic novels are no exception to these discussions. Like history itself, classic novels provide glimpses into different times and contexts. When exploring these works, I approach them with care and a recognition of our present-day perspectives.
In my teaching, I have covered subjects such as the Civil War, the Holocaust, women's rights, and many other significant events and movements. My aim is always to consider the needs and experiences of each and every student, ensuring that our discussions are inclusive and respectful to all.
I believe in fostering an environment that nurtures the growth and understanding of all my students. If you have any specific concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to me. I am dedicated to providing a positive and enriching educational experience for everyone.
