This self-paced class is for ukulele beginners who would like to study at their own pace with teacher support. Students will watch a teacher-created video each week, breaking down all the basics of how to play the ukulele. Students will receive a small suggested video assignment to submit to the teacher each week for feedback. Each week, we will practice new chords and use these chords to strum 1-2 popular songs. We will also learn to play melodies using tab notation. Curriculum is as follows: Week 1: Learn the history, layout, and playing basics of the ukulele; learn how to tune the instrument and how to play your first song Week 2: Learn how to read a chord diagram and use chords C and Fadd9 to play a song; how to read tablature Week 3: New chords F and am in songs; how to play more songs using tab Week 4: New chord G in songs; how to play two more tab songs Week 5: New chord G7 in songs; how to play two more tab songs Week 6: Chords to accompany songs by student request and tips for researching additional songs you'd like to learn on your own By the end of these six weeks, students will know: -How to play basic chords, including C, F, G, G7, and am -How to read melodies using guitar tablature ("tab") -How to play chords to accompany songs harmonically -How to research chord charts on the Internet and learn new songs independently The course is structured so that students can watch one video each week. However, since this is a self-paced class, students are welcome to move through the content at a faster or slower pace that is right for them. Students will receive consistent check-ins and feedback from me on assignments and any questions they may have. The convenience of the self-paced schedule means learners can practice, review, and progress at their own pace while getting consistent feedback from an experienced instructor!
學習目標
Students will develop their ukulele skills as they learn new songs each week to add to their repertoire. Students will be able to show weekly progress in learning new chords, chord progressions, and tablature reading.

學習需求
I have fifteen years of K-8 school music teaching experience, and am familiar with how to adjust my content to meet diverse learning needs.
先決條件
No experience necessary! This course is for complete beginners.
供應清單
Students will need their own soprano, concert, or tenor ukulele. Many inexpensive starter instruments can be found online; message me if you would like assistance in selecting one. The ukulele must be functional and have all four strings. It is my recommendation that left handed players still play on a conventional ukulele (not a "lefty" version); please message me with any questions.

Hello! My name is Tara and I am a music teacher and mom in Florida, USA. I have been a school music teacher and private lesson instructor for 15 years, and I love what I do! I currently teach early childhood music at a K-8 school, as well as individual lessons in voice, guitar, piano, and ukulele. I also conduct a children's choir in my home community.
I have a Master of Music Education and Bachelor of Music Education, both from Florida State University. I have taught Pre-K through 12th grade music full time in Florida and Massachusetts schools, and hold teaching certificates in both states. I am proud that my educational background is focused on pedagogy, not just performance.
I believe that music is for every child, and every child is musical. There is a common misconception that musical ability is something people either have or "don't." Music can be taught and learned, just like any skill. Every child has music to share, and I want to help them nurture it. Music lessons are never "one size fits all" -- I am always creating instructional materials that suit the needs and interests of a particular student.
I would love to get to know your child and make music together. If there is a music class you would like to see offered, or if you would like to set up a class time that is not currently scheduled, please send me a message!
