This class is individualized for each child that enrolls in the course. We will spend 45 minutes engaging with a piece of text while practicing foundational skills to be able to comprehend the text. We will pause, discuss, and chunk the text to help your child learn the skills that "good readers" use. Students will practice and learn skills that all proficient readers need to be successful. Students will learn to re-read a text for meaning, find key words and details to answer questions concisely, and formulate ideas to answer and respond to prompts.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in English and Specialist Degree in Education. I taught english and reading for ten years and was a literacy coach for five years; in this position I coached and taught teachers how to be most effective in instructional practices in in the teaching or reading and writing. Also, I have successfully taught english to Chinese students for the past four years via an online platform. Lastly, I have been an Assistant Principal of a middle school for the last six years where my focus of teacher development and evaluation is in the subjects of reading and english.
