課堂經歷
🌟Class Summary: In this ongoing class, students will listen to stories in U.S. History about myths, people, stories, and legends that have been lost with the passing of time. Students will discuss & evaluate evidence from stories and decide TRUTH or TALE! From thriving cities to ghost towns, infamous robberies, to unsolved mysteries, in this class we will hear obscure & unforgettable stories that made America! 🌟Class Format: 1. Student Welcome & Introductions 2. Creating Historical Context (the story background) 3. Story time! 4. Closing Discussion Students will be immersed in the historical narratives through video, slides, images, discussion with peers and other engaging visuals to aid students in reading and historical comprehension. This class is perfect for students who are visual/hands-on learners, want to improve historical comprehension or enjoy exploring different Historical perspectives they might not be familiar with. 🌟Topic Schedule: This ongoing class will meet once a week and the scheduled Topics are as follows. Students may enroll at any time as these are stand-alone topics. Learners do not need any prior Historical knowledge as they will be learning through the stories themselves. Week of August 1st: "The Ward": Insane Asylums in the United States (1800s) Week of August 15th: Hero or Terrorist? The Story of John Brown 🌟Parental Guidance: As this is a history course based entirely on primary sources & secondary Historical sources, there may be mention of death, murder, enslavement, kidnapping, abuse, racism, gender, torture, war, disease, religion, and other topics that may be sensitive to some learners. All topics will be taught in an age appropriate manner, in a Historical context. Topics are consistently updated, so parents are urged to save the page to decide what topics are appropriate for their learners. Although this course is formatted to present obscure details about Historical events, historical sources will be provided for students to analyze and determine their own conclusions. Resources used to create context for the stories are listed below and will be periodically updated; therefore parents are urged to save this page and revisit. For this course, students may occasionally use the following tools, and they will be used as follows: -Nearpod: may be used for lesson or trivia (no student account necessary. Learners should be familiar with muting/unmuting themselves 2. Students are invited to immerse themselves in the class and participate. Please encourage students to be open to new experiences & perspectives. Also, to get the most out of the learning experience, I ask that students refrain from being engaged in other activities that take them away from participation whether that be eating, or their phone, or other such distractions. 3. Siblings are welcome but must be enrolled in the course. 4. To ensure safety, every student needs to have their camera on so I can verify the identity of the student. 5. Promptness is appreciated. Students running more than 10 minutes late should contact me about being rescheduled into another class. If no contact is made after 24 hours, there will be no availability to re-schedule. No partial refunds are available for missed class time. 6. I always have the BEST students🧡 and want every learner to have a FANTASTIC experience in class! Therefore I expect that all students conduct themselves in ways that are respectful and not disruptive to themselves, their instructor, or fellow learners.
