Assessment will consist of informal observation of discussion, the reader response essay, and periodic "quizzes". All assessments will take place in class with the exception of the reader response essay which will be partially written outside of class.等級

The course will include a weekly class session with novel discussion and essay lessons. There will also be discussion board requirements. Students will be responsible for reading a portion of the book each week, and they will be responsible for being prepared to reflect upon and discuss the book both in person and online. Students will also be brainstorming/prewriting, writing, peer editing, and editing a reader response essay.

This novel includes racism, violence (including a lynch mob and rape), and alcoholism. It is considered a classic, and is read widely, especially by those 12 years of age and older.
Please research the novel and be sure that you are comfortable with your student reading this book.
