★★ New to Outschool? Use code AndreaDa20 for $20 off any class! ★★ Many good readers already know that asking questions is a crucial strategy to improve reading comprehension. However, many do not realize that there are different types of questions, and only one type will help readers better understand their reading. In this class, we will learn the difference between "thick" and "thin" questions and look at examples of each. We will watch an animated short film and use it to practice developing our own questions. Students will not need any third party accounts, nor any materials for this class.

Students will be able to understand the difference between different types of questions and develop the ability to ask those which require deeper thinking and understanding of a text.

We will be watching the following video as part of the class. It shows the story of a Chinese-American mother and daughter and how they connect by cooking together over the years of their relationship. The father is not present nor mentioned. The mother becomes ill and there is a brief moment of tension as the daughter encounters her sick mother before she is taken to the hospital. Later, it is understood that the mother has passed away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MX_fJAhmEE. Students will not have access to the link during class, we will watch the video via screen share.
