Are you ready to dive into the exciting world of K-Pop music? Join me for this fun and engaging one-time online course designed for students ages 9-13! In this course we'll explore the history, musical concepts, artistry, and global impact of K-Pop music. Throughout this course, students will not only learn about K-Pop history and artistry but also actively participate in discussions and even sing some K-Pop songs! 🎶 Topics Covered: -History and origin of K-Pop music, from its beginnings to its rise as a global phenomenon. -Key musical elements that make K-Pop unique, such as catchy hooks, dance beats, and rap sections. -How K-Pop artists express themselves creatively through music, dance, and fashion. 🍎 Class Structure: This lesson is divided into five sections, each focusing on a different aspect of K-Pop, from history to impact! 👩🏼🏫 Teacher Style: Some aspects of this class will be taught lecture-style to introduce new concepts although this is kept to a minimum. Students are engaged with the content through active discussion, music analysis and critical thinking questions. Students will also be able to learn and sing age-appropriate K-Pop songs. 🙋🏽♂️ Teacher-Student and Learner Interaction: Students are active participants throughout the lesson! They will have the opportunity to share their favorite music genres and artists as well as involve themselves in class discussions and through singing K-Pop songs. 🎤 Prerequisites: No prior knowledge of K-Pop is required to join this course. Students should have an open mind, a love for music, and a willingness to explore new cultures and sounds.

Learners will use Padlet as a platform to express their thoughts and ideas regarding the concepts introduced in the course. While some learners may prefer to create an account for their name to be associated with their posts, there is also the option to post anonymously. The decision of whether or not learners should create a Padlet account is entirely at the discretion of their families.

*Multimedia Elements Included In This Course*
-Excerpts from K-Pop Songs: These excerpts are selected to examine the evolution of K-Pop as a genre, observe vocal techniques, musical hooks and other musical elements.
-Short YouTube Videos: To further explore the creative expression of K-Pop idols, students will watch clips from YouTube videos. These videos will provide visual insights into the creative movement and fashion choices of K-Pop idols, fostering a deeper appreciation for their artistic presentation.
*Performance Components*
In addition to the multimedia elements mentioned above, students will also have the opportunity to learn and sing one or more of the following K-Pop songs in the class:
-"Dynamite" by BTS
-"Cause I Like You" by Stray Kids
-"Ice Cream" by Blackpink

Miss Suzanne is a certified K-12 music teacher with a decade of experience teaching music in New Jersey's public schools. Intrigued by her elementary students' interest in K-Pop, she has collaborated on many aspects of this course with her musically talented sister, who is fluent in Korean and has traveled to South Korea.
