每週 1 小時. Some activities may not be completed during the live class. Students will be expected to finish the activity in order to share it at our next meeting. Some homework is highly encouraged to solidify concepts learned in class.評估
Through journaling and discussion, students are monitored for understanding as we progress through the unit. The science journal will be a record of what we learned this semester.我們無法翻譯此文,請刷新頁面並再試一次。

In this interactive science course, appropriate for Grades 1-3, students become thoughtful scientists as they explore the origins and workings of the universe. Through interactive slideshows, videos, books, and simple experiments, students learn how the Big Bang led to the creation of our planet Earth. Students begin by learning about the 4 things all scientists do: Ask questions, observe, make predictions, and record what they see. Then students use this knowledge as they explore The Story of the Universe. "The Story of the Universe" is an engaging story that helps the students understand the age, size, and timeline of the universe in terms they can understand. After interacting with this big-picture story for a couple of weeks, we begin to explore the inner workings of the universe. Students learn about how stars are made, and how they helped contribute to all of the things we see around us. Finally, students finish by making a lapbook with information they've learned about the life of a star. This class may be taken as a STAND-ALONE class, but when put together with all 4 classes, they create a full 36-week curriculum in science! Classes may be taken in any order, but here is the suggested path: PART 1 (THIS CLASS): The Beginning PART 2: Matter Matters PART 3: Our Solar System PART 4: Earth's Beginnings ***************** SUMMER 2023 ***************** WEEK 1: INTRODUCTION What is Science? How do scientists learn? Activities: Observing Termites; Kitchen Volcanoes WEEK 2: OBSERVATIONS & QUESTIONS Why do scientists ask questions & observe? How can I observe things around me and ask questions? Activities: Hopping Corn; Hand Drawings WEEK 3: PREDICTIONS & RECORDING How do scientists make predictions? Why do they record what they do? Activities: Fizzy Balloons; Foil Boats WEEK 4: STORY OF THE UNIVERSE What is the universe? How did the universe begin? Activities: The Story of the Universe Book WEEK 5: OUR PLACE IN SPACE How big is the universe? Where is our place in the universe? Activities: Our Place in Space; Cosmic Travels WEEK 6: A STAR'S LIFE What is a star made of? How long do stars live? Activities: Star Lapbook WEEK 7: GALAXIES What is a galaxy? What is the Milky Way? Activities: Types of Galaxies WEEK 8: CONSTELLATIONS What are we looking at when we see stars? What is a constellation? Activities: Stories of Constellations; Constellation Cards WEEK 9: WRAP UP What is the story of the Universe? What do stars have to do with me? Activities: I Am a Star EXPERIMENTS: Upon enrollment, parents will receive a detailed list of supplies and preparation necessary for classes. Most of the experiments can be done by students alone, however there are a few where students deal with hot water or ovens and should be supervised. These lessons will be highlighted in the pdf provided. ********************************************** FULL HOMESCHOOLING CURRICULUM ********************************************** This course may be taken alone, but is also part of a full homeschooling curriculum I offer on Outschool for grades 2-3. If you're interested check out my Outschool schedule or this pdf of my full 2023-24 school year classes. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_qHHoWIdIQ5Edc2ryy5HPe3FZWOhxnRh/view?usp=sharing
學習目標
Students will learn about the nature of science and the skills that scientists use, including observation, question-asking, and recording. They will also come away with an understanding of where Earth fits into the larger universe. After learning about the sequence of the creation of the universe (Big Bang--Creation of Matter--Formation of Stars & Galaxies--Birth of the Solar System--Formation of Earth), they will look closely the birth, life, and death of stars, as well as galaxies and constellations.

Hi! I'm a Colorado-certified elementary teacher and a veteran homeschool parent of 4 children. For over 20 years, I've taught hundreds of children in grades PreK-8 in a variety of settings. Today I teach homeschooled students on Outschool. I also run an in-person microschool called MindSpark, where I teach up to 15 students a personalized curriculum.
One of my favorite things about teaching is helping my students discover ways to connect to whatever they are learning. I use stories, hands-on activities, and personal experiences to make learning meaningful. I believe in each and every one of my students, and try to learn from them as much as they learn from me. I believe that no one is perfect, that mistakes should be embraced, and that curiosity and learning are what makes life interesting.
I have been teaching on Outschool for over 4 years and enjoy meeting kids from all over the world. I specialize in math, science, and social studies, and my classes are mostly full of returning homeschooled students. These students thrive in the close community I create within my classes. If you are interested in more than one class with me, I do offer discounts, so please ask!
I live in Colorado, nestled in my Rocky Mountain home with my husband and 4 children. When I'm not teaching you can find me hiking, camping, stargazing, or skiing with my family. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I am a true nerd at heart. I love historical fiction, musical theater, and watching documentaries on Netflix. I look forward to seeing you in my classes and starting our learning adventure together!
