課堂經歷
This will be a discussion and presentation based course. Mini lessons will be offered and learners will then explore ideas with their peers and present their portfolios as they are developed culminating in an online presentation to share with family and friends. Wk1: Sociology and Me. Wk2: How have culture and social networks socialized me? What about deviance? Wk3: What role do race, class, and gender play in shaping who I am? Wk4: What social institutions have contributed to my socialization? Wk5: What predictions can I make about my future? Who am I becoming? Wk6: Presentations In each class we will begin with students sharing what they already know, and are curious about, related to the essential questions for that week. Using mini-lectures, I will introduce sociological ideas using concept maps and google slides. Students will watch short videos (TED Talks, Documentary Clips) and/or read short articles or blog posts and engage in group discussion of sociological ideas as they relate to the questions of the week. Each lesson will end with students naming a learning and how they might apply that insight to the next piece of their Self Identity Portfolio.

教師專業知識和證書
I was asked recently to name in six words why I teach. I knew, without hesitation because, I want to change the world. How? By nurturing, inspiring, and empowering my students to be empathetic, critical, and proactive local and global citizens.
I am a sociologist by training and a teacher and mentor at heart. I teach Sociology, Leadership, College Planning, and Analytic Writing. I have a BA in Sociology/Anthropology with a minor in Women's Studies, an MA in Sociology, and a Social Science teaching credential. I also have an MS in Educational Leadership and an Administrative Services Credential. I have taught high school and college students for over twenty years and I have served as a member of the American Sociological Association's High School Advisory. As a school leader in K-12 institutions I have led professional learning for K-12 faculty and have mentored students planning for college admission as well as adults working as educators and school leaders.
I have been teaching online courses since the fall of 2016 and, while it comes with some challenges, I enjoy the video conference format since it allows for some of the social interaction that we get in traditional face to face classrooms. I believe that authentic learning stems from our natural curiosity and is achieved through joyful and collaborative experiences. It is my job as the teacher to create opportunities for learning that are exploratory and that ignite interest in the world around us.
I look forward to working with you and your learners!
