We all remember the Etch-a-Sketch! Did you know you can make one with materials found in your house? Join us for a sensory filled experience to practice shapes! In this class, students will engage with the teacher and each other for a social time of learning. We will practice basic shapes like circles and triangles in our sand trays. We will also practice more difficult shapes such as a star and pentagon. For fun, we will even make handprints and smiley faces! Students will learn how to...
Students will learn and practice the following shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, diamond, star, oval, pentagon.
In classrooms, home environment teaching, and homeschooling, I have used this activity for several years to guide young learners to have a concrete memory of each shape.
- A shallow tray (wooden tray, cookie sheet, etc.) The goal is for their hand to be able to create each shape with ease without having to reach too deeply into something - Light colored sand, sugar, or corn starch filled with just enough for the hand to be able to make a shape or imprint (see class photo) - A dry cloth to wipe off hands - Shapes printable supplied by the teacher
