In order to manage anxiety, we must first understand it. In a world filled with anxieties, I think it’s especially important for us all to take an interest in what anxiety actually is. So, I’m very glad to have captured your interest! After taking this class, students will not only get a taste of the exciting worlds of Neuroscience and psychology but may also come away interested in befriending - instead of fighting and avoiding - a fascinatingly complex, normal, and potentially helpful emotion. I believe we learn so much better when we are engaged, interested, and enjoying what we're learning. This is why, despite being a serious topic, I've made it fun and interactive. We will be using my whiteboard, illustrations, polls, Q&As, quizzes, and games. I have distilled the vast amount of complex information on this topic into a one-time class that is easy to follow. The structure of my class is as follows: 1. Greeting (introduction and polls) 2. Discussion on the difference between fear and anxiety (polls and Q&A's) 3. Explanation of the Neuroanatomy of Anxiety (graphics, visuals, and puzzle) 4. Explanation of the Neuropsychology of Anxiety (graphics, visuals, and puzzle) 5. Exploration of Anxiety disorders (case studies and diagnosis game) 6. Exploration of Anxiety treatments (case studies and treatment game) 7. Summary (recap, quiz, and Q&A) Disclaimer - This is for educational purposes only and this information should not be relied on as a substitute or replacement for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. I will be drawing on the information from up-to-date scientific literature on anxiety and anxiety disorders that I've encountered during my educational career, in addition to APA and BPS-sponsored content on anxiety and anxiety disoders. Here is a list of the articles (We we will not go through each of these sources. These have just informed my knowledge of the neuroscience of anxiety.)
