They say that everything old becomes new again, and no place is that more true in the fashion world. This class, which is 60% social studies and 40% design, will dive into different periods of fashion. We will look at pictures of the styles, and discuss what makes them unique. We will discuss what was going on in the world around the trends and fads, including world events, inventions and innovations, and gender roles in society. We will discuss the role of clothing during the period,...
Students will categorize fashion based on time period. Students will trace the evolution of women's fashion. Students will identify key aspects of each time period fashion. Students will create a contemporary collection using elements from the past.
I have been teaching fashion design for over 4 years and love both the design and history of it. I believe that fashion is a social studies topic and that fashion can be a useful way to learn history.
