課堂經歷

英語程度 - 未知
美國 6 - 8 年級
My social studies classes are highly interactive. I use a variety of games, online activities, and online exploration for students to discover and learn. Students will use Google Slides, Google Earth, and many other online virtual online resources. I believe that kids (and adults!) learn through doing and seeing.

Interaction with classmates and myself is through Google Slides, the Outschool Classroom, Nearpod, Flipgrid, and Jamboard.

Week 1:
-----Learn the 5 Themes of Geography (Location, Place, Human-Environment Interaction, Movement, and Region)
-----Use the 5 themes of Geography to describe where you live
-----Plan a mystery trip using Google Earth (Location)
-----Identify various landforms in Google Earth and compete in a scavenger hunt (Place)
-----Discover various homes in the world using Google Earth and how those that live in them adapt to their physical and cultural environments (Human-Environment Interaction/Place)

Week 2:
-----Discover how the Erie Canal affected the future of America (Movement/Human-Environment Interaction)
-----Identify how humans affect rivers and rivers affect the way humans live (Human-Environment Interaction)
-----Work in groups to make decisions about where to build settlements in hypothetical places, considering locational factors in the decision-making on Nearpod (Place/Region)
-----Using Map Maker Interactive, consider their own towns and why do they think those towns were settled where they were (Place)

Week 3:
-----Explore various National Parks and examine their unique landforms (Place)
-----Create an advertisement for visitors for National Park and present this advertisement to the group (Place)
-----Learn how to read latitude and longitude down to minutes and seconds (Location)
-----Using Google Earth, play 20 Questions to find the mystery location (Location)

Week 4:
-----Consider the clothes inside our closet and how the world in interconnected (Movement)
-----Examine the Geography of a Pencil (Movement)
-----Ask the question "How Cultural Aware Are You?" while becoming more aware of their own and others' cultures (Place)

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
We believe that students learn through personal action. Though we frequently use standards to guide instruction, we work to make our classrooms student-centered. Our classes often feature games and investigative activities.

Students of all backgrounds and learning abilities are welcome in our classrooms. If there is an accommodation you'd like us to make for your child, please reach out. Our classrooms are safe spaces.

INFORMATION:
We'd be happy to set up a private section for homeschool pods or groups of students wanting to create a consistent experience together. Just shoot us a message and we will work something out!
