Come join with us as we have a meeting of the minds! Each week, we will get together and discuss 1 (or two, time permitting) famous quotes. We will engage in a class discussion of the quote's meaning and relevance to modern life. The teacher will provide historical and social context as needed, and we will determine how this information affects our understanding and reception of the quote. For example, in one class we will discuss the quote, "Never let the fear of striking out keep you...
Students will learn how to read analytically. Students will practice using social and historical context to derive meaning from famous texts. Students will gain the confidence and skills to write critically and analytically. Students will have the option to practice speaking publicly by sharing their writing with the class. Public speaking is not mandatory for this class.
