I am a U.S. Military veteran, former firefighter/first responder, and have been an outdoorsman and survival enthusiast for over 25 years. I have also been in several unfortunate scenarios where I have had to use my survival skills to stay safe and alive, such as experiencing hypothermia, heatstroke, encountering dangerous animals, and sustaining serious injuries. My training and experience includes: -U.S. Coast Guard. During my time serving, I participated in many federal law enforcement and search and rescue missions, and was part of a hurricane response team in South Florida. -I was a Firefighter/First Responder for 10 years. -I have taught basic first aid, and emergency preparedness to many children, and adults. -I have had a great deal of training in urban & wilderness survival, survival psychology, critical incident peer support, emergency management, and disaster preparedness. -I have also been on many wonderful outdoor adventures and had the unique privilege of mentoring under other fellow veterans which include: special operations servicemen, military medics/ corpsman, and combat survival instructors.
I do talk about proper survival tools such as knives, and fire starters. I do strictly emphasize the importance of having adult supervision if ever practicing making a shelter, building a fire and treating water. For the most part though this class is not at all scary, I have never had a parent or student complain about feeling anxious or scared after the class.
