You know those stories that give you nightmares? Those that keep you checking the closets, under the bed, and sleeping with the lights on? What makes those tales truly terrifying? In this class, we'll be reading famous scary stories, discovering the literary techniques and devices used to terrify readers, and use those literary devices to create scary stories of our own! CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.4.3.A - Orient the reader by establishing a situation and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.4.3.B - Use dialogue and description to develop experiences and events or show the responses of characters to situations. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.4.3.D - Use concrete words and phrases and sensory details to convey experiences and events precisely. While this course is designed to be appropriate for learners 10-13 years of age, learners may react differently to the nature of the content embedded in this class. I advise you to consider your learner's own unique sensitivity. Examples include clips from the 1960's Alfred Hitchcock thriller "Psycho", and images of actors in prosthetic makeup which may include blood.
