CURRENT CLASS SESSIONS/BOOK -Thursday, June 13, 2024 -OR- -Sunday, June 16, 2024 March: Book One by John Lewis (Author), Andrew Aydin (Author), Nate Powell (Illustrator) & Drowned City: Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans by Don Brown **Please be sure to read the entire book in preparation for our time together.** Journey through literature as we dive into the rich tapestry of identity, diversity, justice, and activism. In this interactive book club, students will engage in thoughtful discussions, critical analysis, and creative activities centered around diverse texts that illuminate the complexities of the human experience. Through discussions and collaborative activities, students will deepen their understanding of these issues and develop empathy, compassion, and critical thinking skills. Whether it's through fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or graphic novels, each book will provide a window into different perspectives and lived experiences. Participants will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, ask questions, and connect with peers in a supportive and inclusive environment. Please look up the books before enrolling your students to ensure the choices will be a good match for your student and your family. All the books are classified as YA or adult as this is a teen book club.

By the end of the session, participants will not only have expanded their literary horizons but also gained a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. This will include prompts and discussion surrounding literary elements, social/emotional skills, and social justice work.

All of her work has been about providing culturally responsive educational experiences for her students so they can learn more about themselves and others.
