課堂經歷
Reading the historical American Gill Doll books brings so much of history to life, but let's get into the kitchen and find out what history TASTED like! For each of our meetings, we'll be making one dish that would have been popular during a certain doll's time. Come to this class if you'd like to taste Felicity's raspberry flummery or Kirsten's homemade butter! During each class, we will start with a brief overview of the featured doll's time period. Once we get into cooking, we'll go over some fundamental cooking and baking vocabulary, and as we wait for our dishes to cook, we'll talk more about the doll and our love of all things American Girl! Our meetings are as follows: SUMMER SESSION: MEETING 1 (July 8th): Meet Kaya-- An American Girl from 1764. Recipe: Berry Crisp MEETING 2 (July 15th): Meet Kirsten-- An American Girl from 1854. Recipe --> Honey Bread MEETING 3 (July 22nd): Meet Addy-- An American Girl from 1864. Recipe --> Strawberry Nut Loaf MEETING 4 (July 29th): Meet Rebecca-- An American Girl from 1904. Recipe --> Ambrosia MEETING 5 (August 5th): Meet Nanea-- An American Girl from 1941. Recipe--> Hawaiian Macaroni Salad MEETING 6 (August 12th): Meet Melody-- An American Girl from 1964. Recipe --> Rosa Park's Featherlite Pancakes MEETING 7 (August 19th): Meet Courtney-- An American Girl from 1986. Recipe --> Guacamole MEETING 8 (August 26th): Meet Tenney-- An American Girl from 2017. Recipe --> Cornbread with Sorghum Butter

Since we will be cooking, it is strongly suggested to have an adult nearby for help. We will be using the stove and the oven, as well as chopping ingredients.
If there are any students with allergy concerns, please tell me in advance, and I will make sure not to include any recipes with your child's restrictions. I want this class to be inclusive to all.
Please also keep in mind that we will have brief discussions about the doll’s time period and themes. All content will be presented in an age-appropriate manner, and discussion questions for the learners will be pulled from the American Girl Teachers Guides, which can be found for free here, if you would ever like to preview the topics: http://www.americangirlpublishing.com/marketing/teachers-guides/
I look forward to meeting your child soon!

教師專業知識和證書
Hello! My name is Jackie Shaw, and I am so excited to teach your child. I specialize in teaching reading and writing to grades 7-12. I earned my Bachelors of Science from New York University, and my Masters of Arts at Middlebury College. I am also a devoted mom to two children, and will absolutely pull from my experience of teaching them to design fun and engaging lessons for the younger learners!
I have been teaching in public education on Long Island for the last 13 years, and I will now bring what I know from the classroom into my teaching practices with Outschool. I am a teacher who deeply values communication and activity. We learn from talking and from doing, so my classes are really centered around experiential learning. I hope to hear my students' voices more than I hear my own.
My hobbies include cooking, crafting, yoga, traveling, raising animals, and MUSIC! I minored In music performance at NYU and was in a production of Peter Pan in 2019. I will definitely be drawing on my passions as well to create engaging classes for our learners.
I look forward to meeting you!
