***As a mom of four teens, I value the opportunities that allow them to associate with their peers, in a fun, kind and safe space. ***This homeroom will meet every weekend. Learners are not mandated to attend every class, drop in and out as you please. ***Each meet-up is unique and dictated by the students. Students will learn how to use critical thinking skills, while discussing various topics with their diverse group of peers. Debate will not be encouraged and will be monitored by the instructor.
As a Mother of four lifelong life learners, I am aware of how important it is to discuss current events with students. I have an elementary education degree and ran current event discussions in my courses. Additionally, I have been in roles that have provided me with opportunities to foster discussions and create safe places for varied viewpoints.
No graphic/ violent images will be discussed. Due to the (possible) mature content involved, this class is best for 14-18 year old students, who wish to discuss stories with a diverse group and are open to hearing differing opinions than their own. The class will focus on multiple perspectives about current events. Each class will begin with a reminder to students that this is a welcoming environment and all viewpoints may be shared. Learners will be asked to respectfully listen to others views, even if they do not necessarily agree. All learners will be encouraged to share or if they prefer to listen, that is welcome too!
