Welcome to the summer quest to read a book a week! Readers will read one book a week, and come together with a peer or peers to discuss the book as whole, the characters, the setting, plot, favorite parts, least favorite parts, funny parts and so on. I encourage my students to have post-its handy to mark pages that they want to discuss with peers. It may be something you need help better understanding, a part you found funny, sad, encouraging or worth mentioning for your own...
As a certified teacher with many years of teaching ELA, book studies and clubs are some of my favorite classes. Watching children blossom with the confidence to share their own thoughts on a book they have read is wonderful. I always strive to create a welcoming and safe environment for students to build their confidence to speak aloud and share their thoughts.
Students will need a copy of the book or a way to listen to each book. These books are very popular so if you are using the library to rent the books, you may want to grab them early. Amazon has a collection of Dahl books that should have most of these titles in the box set. Post-it notes to mark pages and write down discussion questions or thoughts about the book.
