Students in this class will read the book outside of class and complete a reading guide that I provide. We will meet every week to discuss a section of the book. We will discuss psychology and different research findings in psychology, especially those related to cognition (thought) and social psychology (how humans interact). The class is structured so that students read 1/5 of the book before each meeting so that they are ready to discuss. I will teach by providing discussion questions but...

頻率: 包括回饋: 包括細節: Students are expected to read the assigned chapters before the meeting time. The first meeting will discuss chapters 1-6, so the student is expected to come to class having completed these chapters. Students will be provided with a reading guide for each section of the class. It is encouraged that students complete it so that they can think about the concepts they're learning and organize their learning, as well as record the questions they have. Depending upon reading speed, this may take more or less time than 2-4 hours per week. Student notes will not be checked, but students are expected to bring their notes with questions to the class to discuss. Students and parents should consider the reading load before registering to decide if enrollment is a good idea for them.
This course is not designed specifically for students with unique learning needs, but strategies which benefit students with unique learning needs are embedded into the course (i.e., audio book available, structured notes available).
There are no pre-requisites for this class. Students should be ready to read independently before the class meeting so they are ready to discuss the readings.
1 註冊後即可取得文件We will read "You are not so smart" by David McRaney. I will provide a note outline for each section, so the student will either want to print them out to write on them or be able to open them and type on them. Students should have a pen/pencil and paper available during class time as well as their provided notes.
The assigned book does use curse words randomly - there is an average of 1 per chapter. There are short discussions of adult-themed topics (dating, marriage, romantic interests).
We will read "You are not so smart" by David McRaney. Students/families can find this book at their local library or can search Google for best prices on the book. If students have questions about what a psychological term means, they should use the American Psychological Association dictionary online (https://dictionary.apa.org/
