In this one day class your child will be introduced to the excitement of poetry. We will discuss and brainstorm many words that remind us about the season of summer. I will teach and model the poetry writing process which includes, a specific structure that guides students to organizing their thoughts and results in successful poetry writers. Students will be able to describe and know how to identify a poem. They will be able to follow the writing process to write poems including; Brainstorming, Planning, Writing, Editing, and Sharing.
I have taught poetry writing to elementary students for over a decade. I believe in reading poetry, modeling, discussing, and having student examples be part of every class. The culminating poetry celebration is a great way for students to feel proud of their work and share their favorite poems.
