課堂經歷
Just as Rick Riordan brought Greek and Roman myths together in his second mythic series, this class will explore new myths, compare the stories of the Gods and Goddesses in different ways, and provide the comparative Camp Jupiter vs. Camp Halfblood experience. Through hands-on activities, our demi-gods in training will: * Explore the basics of the major Olympian Greek Gods & Goddesses and compare them to the Roman Gods through art, science, music, drama, and games. * Learn about mythical weapons, unique magical talents, and discover your own strengths. * Create your own mythical story. * Engage with characters and trivia specific to "The Heroes of Olympus" series. * Send "Iris Messages" each day so they can be claimed by a "godly parent" or be blessed by one of the Olympians at the end of the program. It will be VERY important for students to have the supplies to participate in various activities. All supplies are items that they should be able to find inexpensively, locally, and with alternatives listed, but they must have supplies if they are going to enjoy the camp. We will also be using Nearpod, an engaging program that uses a different website but allows for a great amount of interactive engagement. Week One: Camp Half-blood vs New Rome How were the two societies different? Which demigods and gods connect to which camps? Activities: Digital Art, Trivia Games Supplies: No extra necessary Week Two: Godly Parents vs. Roman Ancestors What's the difference between the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses? Activities: Costume & Prop Scavenger Hunt, Music Supplies: Students will need to be able to have access to their own closet to pull out clothes and to gather other items from different places in their house. Week Three: Celestial Bronze vs. Imperial Gold What are the mythical weapons and magical objects associated with each of the camps and characters? What are the talents and strengths of the demigods? Activities: Creating Prop Weapons Supplies: Cardboard (lightweight works best, like cereal boxes, but any kind will work... whatever is in your recycle bin), scissors (we will be careful), heavy tape (masking tape, duct tape, or painters tape work well) and gold or bronze paint. If possible, you could get duct tape or masking tape in a bronze or gold color and then you don't need to get the paint (it's less messy). You can find this at craft stores or hardware stores or on Amazon. I strongly recommend tape instead of paint. Here's an example of the gold tape: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0065LRTES/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_DHM7RA3Q293S1PZ53DYG Or the bronze (which is a bit more expensive, but celestial bronze is what the Greeks use): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EZGJGHW/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_Y44C65SRQVDWPN4PZV0W See you Thursday. Week Four: Oracles Vs. Augury Activities: Writing, Fiber Arts Supplies: Yarn or string, any color, at least 40 inches or so. A piece of scrap fabric (can be a scrap from an old piece of clothing) and poly fill (or cotton balls to fill). Week Five: Old Myths vs. New Myths Activities: Storytelling and/or improvisation Claiming/blessing ceremony Supplies: No additional supplies needed

父母的引導和規範
Greek and Roman mythology include violence and sexuality inherent in the stories, though I will be careful to keep these stories as age-appropriate as possible while staying true to the myths themselves. I do not like to change the myths themselves (Zeus was unfaithful to his wife, for example. A lot. There's no getting around that.). But we don't need to go into details that are inappropriate for young kids.
供應清單
Ideally, each student should read their own copy of Rick Riordan's “Heroes of Olympus”series. (Don't watch the movies... in this case, the movies are nothing like the books.) Every day, if possible, students should wear an orange or Purple shirt... that's just part of the Camp Half-blood/Camp Jupiter experience. Week One: Camp Half-blood vs New Rome How were the two societies different? Which demigods and gods connect to which camps? Activities: Digital Art, Trivia Games Supplies: No extra necessary (Unless your student would prefer a printout of the art and markers - pdf’s will be provided) Week Two: Godly Parents vs. Activities: Sculpting Supplies: Hot glue (if a student is allowed), duct tape, and a ball point pen. OR Air-dry clay and small metallic items in gold and bronze finish (glitter, powder, paint, or paper will work, but you could also use small bits of hardware with a gold or bronze finish) Week Four: Oracles Vs.
